TypeFocus: Grab Your Visitor’s Attention the Easy Way

Getting your visitors to pay attention and actually read your message is one of the most important but also one of the most difficult things to accomplish on your website.

The new TypeFocus feature will help you grab attention in a highly effective way.

Watch the video and check out the examples below to see TypeFocus in action.

Want More Subscribers? We Can Help!

The TypeFocus text animation gives you the impression that somebody is typing in real time on the website.

This will not only get the visitors to read your message, but it will also allow you to say more without cluttering your website.

The TypeFocus feature allows you to add a text animation on ANY text that you can edit with the Thrive Content Builder.

This means that you can use it in blog posts, on a homepage, sales page, squeeze page or any other landing page and even in your opt-in forms.

It's great for emphasizing a message as well:

Yes on ANY text including: Your Sales Pages

This TypeFocus feature is now at your disposal in the latest version of Thrive Content Builder and Thrive Leads.

Big companies such as ActiveCampaign are using this animation on the title of their homepage and now it’s your turn to test it on your website to boost your conversion rates!

    • That’s good to hear! We’ve got more updates like these coming in rapid succession, in the next few weeks. 🙂

    • Thank you very much, Cartess! I can’t take credit for this one, though. It was created by our brilliant developers and Hanne made the video and post. I was just watching the show. 😉

  • Hi Shane, I immediately liked the idea when I saw it. But on my mobile it’s driving me crazy. The whole post is jumping up and down constantly. Anything that I can do to prevent that from happening when using this technique? Thanks!

  • Hey this is awesome… however, what would be EVEN BETTER and more relevant would be to get your on-page(embedded) optin forms to submit in the background without redirecting, just give a success message. It really throws people off to be redirected after optin

    • Hello Jesse,

I’m not entirely sold on this idea. I have this written down as a feature idea, but I’m not sure if we’ll move ahead with it.

The thing is: redirecting someone after the opt-in is a big advantage, because it helps you direct the attention of your new subscriber. You can make sure they confirm their email address, you can communicate expectations clearly, you can use it for personal branding, you can redirect to an upsell…

Keep them on the same page and you’re just increasing chances that they’ll forget who you are by the time they see your next email and mark it as spam.

  • Very cool. I like it a lot. But as this page demonstrates, moderation in use is probably a good idea. Having two lines of text changing themselves at the same time is hard on the brain.

    • Yes, I recommend using this for the main headline and only once per page. We added it more here, for demonstration purposes.

  • Hey Hanne and Shane,
There is a need for a different style of webpage / landing page. How can I contact you best to get the idea to you and why I think it has value to invest time into it?
    Thank you for everything,
    Gerhard

  • Blimey! 3 hours ago I was trying to animate some text and discovered I couldn’t do it. I thought “That’s a feature I think I’ll suggest in the Thrive forums”… then 15mins ago I checked my email and got sent here… how’s THAT for fast service 😉 Love how you guys just keep adding to the awesomeness 😀

  • Great presentation Hanna, I will try this FOR SURE (in moderation of course), I would like to know HOW to place this in an email LIKE YOU did ? Is it a gif?

  • Totally awesome! I can reallyl use this right away! I love Thrive Themes and your no hype approach to marketing, just real world grounded tools.

Thank you, Shane and your team!

  • Amazing new feature! Some points to consider:
    1) does it support responsive design (smartphone, tablet, etc.)?
    2) how is the effect on SEO headlines (h1-tag) etc.?
    3) which minimal technical setup is needed to show it to visitors of the website? (browser-setup)

    • Hello Jonathan,

      1) Yes, it’s fully responsive.
      2) The text you have in a TypeFocus animation is invisible to a search engine.
      3) I don’t know, but it’s safe to assume that practically all of your visitors will see it.

  • Nice but how do you UNDO it if you want to fix it. I saved it and now it needs some help as I did it incorrectly.

  • Shane, can this be programmed to happen only once?

And can it be set to trigger only when it’s in the viewport?

And can it be set to trigger only if the page has not scrolled for x seconds?

(This is an amazing feature, but could quickly turn into the ‘blink’ tag from days of yore.)

    • No, no and no. Although we’re working on the second one. I think you’re probably overthinking this. 🙂

      • I want to add that being able to turn off the loop feature turns this from annoying to regular readers to actually really cool. Tx.

    • I second that.
This is indeed a very interesting effect, however, I might need some time to figure out how to put it to good use and really make it work to direct the reader’s attention and not overload it. I think that repeating the effect in a loop is distracting on a post or a page with a lot of text. The option to animate it ONCE, however, would make it more similar to the animated counters effect (which is great).

Definitely worth experimenting with. Thank you!

    • I agree Tom, would like to have the possibility to stop the loop.
Can easy be annoying with “blinking” texts.

  • Also it would be great if it had a mode where it didn’t type at all, but simply highlighted a phrase once the phrase was in the viewport for x tenths of a second.

  • Really Really Cool 😀 i hope you guys just enhance the progress bars functionality! Thanks for the awesome tools

    • Thanks, Diogo.

The data elements do have some improvements coming down the line, but it’s not a high priority task compared to some of the other goodies we’re working on.

  • First of all I love it, But I have updated my content builder plugin to version : 1.101.13 and i don’t have the TypeFocus feature … did I miss something?

    • Hello Hafiz,

To change the color, select the text and apply the color you want first. Then activate TypeFocus and all variations will be shown in the custom color you set before.

    • Thank you, Christoph. That’s the idea, yes. We want to make sure that you have an edge over your competitors by using Thrive products.

  • That looks great and I’m going to try it out right now!

Q or thought: It would be great if there was a way to isolate that part of the copy to type out and make it the only thing on the screen, then be able to bring the full screen back. The latter choice could be all the screen immediate or a screen effect like a fade in.

I’m no programmer but that was the first thought to come to mind.

Thanks for your constant updates. It’s made me a fan of the product and of yours.

    • Thanks for your suggestion, Tom! It would be challenging to make something like that easy to implement and universally applicable… not sure if we can do that.

  • My only comment would be for the animation to turn off once you scroll past it. Reading this post on a mobile device, the animation causes the page to continually jump around and it is almost unreadable.

  • Absolutely awesome Shane. The mind boggles at the uses. Would be great to see how it’s being used across the Thrive community.

    • Hello Joe,

Please post about this issue in the support forum, so we can get it sorted out for you.

      Thanks!

  • Great idea and I love thrive. But I see one issue that the whole page keeps jumping up and down with the text being written.

Is there a way to stop it working when you scroll by it?

    • Hello Steve,

If you can’t access the feature, please post about it in the support forum, so we can help you out.

      Thanks!

  • Agree with:
The option to animate it ONCE, however, would make it more similar to the animated counters effect (which is great).
Great to see you continue to add value, keep it coming!

    • Hello Stuart,

No, there’s no option for that. You can use Camtasia Studio to record your screen with this animation running and then turn that recording into a GIF.

  • Shane! As Hafiz pointed out, I love your notifications on the facebook page. I look forward to it each time and wait for new features! 🙂

  • What an awesome new feature! Thank you, thank you, thank you for continuously improving on already awesome products. Shane, you and your Team are a class act.

  • Once again, this is a great new feature to get your visitors attention, if you use it very targeted. To not blow out this great effect, i think its worth to add some more control, such as
+ don’t animate before it came into viewpoint
+ option to animate it only once versus endless

  • Hi This is awesome. I tried it out immediately. It does give some kind of error with a square instead of a letter. I tried to solve it in the backend, but nothing there.

  • Love you guys’ innovation as always Shane, but like so many others on this thread…., I also truly feel this needs to be able to adjust the repetitions – in everybody’s case as people have said – ONCE.

Having no control over the loop will make me personally not want to use it. Constant looping will really annoy my visitors I feel.

Otherwise as always, you guys rock and continue to do so!

    Mark

  • HI Shane Hi Hanne,

I have very recently joined Thrive Themes and it looks very clean and clear. Are we going to have a Sales Funnel builder inside here? Something similar to what InstaTheme is doing?

  • This is awesome! I’m really impressed by the quality of your newsletters. There’s always something new to try or learn from them.

    Thank you!

  • This is so cool, can’t wait to try it and I don’t think it would annoy people like the pop ups often do. Brilliant!

  • You guys just keep coming up with surprise after surprise.
Typefocus is yet another surprise. I know exactly where I will be using this to enhance conversion possibilities. Thanks for being so creative.

    • Hi Warren,
This can be used on any text that you can edit with the Thrive Content Builder. If you can change the text in the widget with TCB you’re good to use the Typefocus feature.

    • Hi Artur,
This can be used on any text that is editable with Thrive Content Builder, so yes you can use it on any blog post in any Thrive Theme if you have the Thrive Content Builder.

  • OMG, you guys are so amazing….. use Thrive products is the best thing I’ve ever done. I Love the updates, support, blog posts, everything….

    • Yes they are, it’s nice for once to be treated like a customer, a person, not just like a number, they keep rolling out so many great updates, not just small ones, but great new features. Not to forget the support team, they go above and beyond what one would normally expect. Buying the Thrive Themes membership is the best investment I have made in my 4 years marketing online.

  • Great Feature, once again. And I also love the little tutorial Video (before watching it I didn’t find the new option…).
Now I only have to repeat what others said:
To not let it get annoying the effect should
    – not animate before it comes into viewpoint
    – there should be an option to animate it only once versus endless
    Thanks for constant great updates!

    • Hi Tudor,

You can sign up to one of the free reports and will receive the blog post updates (like the rapid landing pages course on the end of this article) 🙂

  • First of all, it is refreshing to have Hanne present these video messages. A woman in IT and marketing is a great thing. And while I have a deep respect and a huge regard for my friends in America, of which I have many, that accent is pervasive and so it is also excellent to hear English being spoken with an alternative accent to my own Australian one and that of the ever-present American accent……BUT
LOL 🙂 THIS NEW FEATURE appears to be MISSING from my version of Thrive Themes? This new feature is located next to the ”Clear Line Height” box. On my version of Thrive Themes, This box seems to be missing? I would send a screenshot if that was possible here…. or I am missing some action I need to take?

Regardless, I am so pleased to have found Thrive Themes. It is a huge blessing to me 🙂

PS:I am still building my site, but what I have done is published

    • Hi Robert,
Thank you for your comment (glad to know my European accent is refreshing 😉 )
If you have the last version of Thrive Content Builder you should see the feature pop up as soon as you select text (the feature is not visible when no text is selected).
If this is not the case you can contact our support team through the forum and they will help you out!

  • More awesomeness! You guys are on to it! I love that you are always developing fantastic assets to the content builder and themes. I’ve been using and promoting Thrive Themes for over 18mths and still loving it. Don’t use anything else!

  • There doesn’t seem to be a typefocus button when I’m using Thrive Landing Pages. Do I need to build my landing pages from Content Builder to use this feature?

    • Hi Melanie, If you have the last version installed of Thrive Landing Pages, you should see the TypeFocus button appear when you select the text you want to animate (as long as the text is not selected, the button is not visible). If you still can’t see the button, you can contact our support forum, they will be able to help you out!

  • Thanks Guy for this. But the highlighter color doesn’t seem to work with mine 🙁 . It justs type on white background even when i changed it to yellow!

  • Hi- Thank you for this feature. I really appreciate you coming up with so many new elements for us all the time.

I do wish that you could take some time to make it work the way so many of us want…

I appreciate all your hard work but when you have many people ( 8 I counted on these comments) asking for something to take this feature from good to great I really think you should take the time to make it happen.

This is not to mention all the other people who feel the same way but never took the time to make a comment about it.

This feature is cool but when it runs in a loop it is annoying and will eventually become amateurish.

I am not a programmer but I don’t see how adding on option to loop or not can be a huge programming endeavor.

    Maybe I’m wrong…

It’s been a long time since this came out and I’m afraid you are not even considering working on this any longer even with so many people asking for this.

I think with this option of turning off the looping feature of this element it can be used in many ways without overloading the effect and making it annoying.

I think it can be a great way to highlight important copy in a way people are not turned off by.

I really hope you reconsider as so many in this community (customers) have requested this.

I would even pay for someone to do this.

Which brings up another point… It would really be great if there was a section in the members area where we could hire programmers that know how to work in thrive themes products.

Many times I have asked for little tweaks to your features and am told in the forums that I need to hire a programmer.

I don’t know where to find one that isn’t totally overpriced and that won’t screw up the plugin accidentally.

If we had someplace to go to hire quality people that know this product. I believe it would help you and it would help us and it would create work for good programmers that need money.

    Just my 6 cents worth.

  • Just discoverd it.. great.. i would love if you would add more options like in optimize press plus packs Headline Designer (Hint)…

i own both products but i like to build websites with yours more..

  • Hey all,

Is this feature still available within Thrive Themes? I want to use it but cannot find how to access it.

    Thank you
